Construction companies in Florida added the most number of construction jobs as of September year over year, although employers in some places find it hard to fill certain positions.
An Associated General Contractors of America report indicates that Southwest Florida needs more workers than anywhere else in the state. Companies in this region need construction staffing for residential, hotel and retail construction projects.
In the last 12 months ending September, contractors in Florida hired 70,700 people that represented an almost 15% growth rate. The report, however, notes that nearly 80% of companies in the state have trouble in hiring the right people.
Some of the problems with recruitment may involve a skills’ gap among applicants. Construction companies should then think about seeking help from a recruitment firm, which is particularly useful for small businesses that don’t have an in-house human resources department. Some staffing agencies also specialize in hiring people from different sectors aside from construction, such as general labor and skill trade.
AGC chief economist Ken Simonson said that construction employment only fell in three states during the covered period. The job growth in 45 states and the District of Columbia means that companies are optimistic about the prospects of more projects in the future.
Industry employment in Missouri and Maryland stayed the same from September 2017. Regarding monthly gains, Pennsylvania added the most number of jobs at 3,700 between August and September 2018, followed by 3,000 jobs in Texas.
Contractors in different states should consider hiring more workers through a recruitment agency, which will find the right candidates for particular vacancies. A labor shortage will hamper the benefits of a growing economy, which means that more projects will be useless if you don’t have an adequate workforce. What is your recruitment strategy?
